The ministry of the Office of Faith Formation is to help the St. John Bosco family incarnate the Word of God by developing an active Catholic Christian faith. This is accomplished primarily through three processes designed to meet the formation needs of each family member. The curriculum integrates Scripture, Church doctrine, prayer, and life experiences in order to accomplish the Tasks of Catechesis:
Promote knowledge of the faith
Promote knowledge of liturgy and the Sacraments
Promote moral formation in Jesus Christ
Teach us how to pray
Prepare us to live in community and actively participate in the Church's mission
Promote a missionary spirit that prepares us to be present in society
Christian Formation: Designed for families with children from kindergarten through sixth grade, we will meet from September 19 through May most Sunday mornings after 9:00 Mass and breakfast. We follow the Archdiocese of Seattle's Religious Education curriculum and use Silver Burdett Ginn's Blest Are We textbook series. In addition to traditional class times, we meet as families several times throughout the liturgical year. In order to register, click here. Tentative schedule is available here.
Sacramental Preparation: Any baptized Catholic second through sixth grader is eligible to receive the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist for the first time. Both require a period of preparation that includes classes, at-home activities, and an interview. Much of the preparation takes place Sundays during Christian Formation. Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults: RCIA is a process for non-Catholics wishing to convert to Catholicism or baptized Catholics who have never received Confirmation and Eucharist. Our group meets on Mondays at 7:00 in order to pray, to reflect on Sunday's Gospel, and to learn more about Catholic doctrine. The process begins anew on September 13. We join with the rest of the St. John Bosco community for Mass on weekends. The process culminates at the Easter Vigil when we welcome new members to our faith community.
